Das Foods is a Chicago based artisan and handmade candy company specializing in French-style salted caramels. Katie Das considers her mission simple: to make innovative, delicious, yet familiar treats while using the best local products available. Since founding Das Foods in 2006, her passion and belief in slow food and local ingredients has been ingrained in her business strategy. Regardless of the economy, Katie has made it her priority to obtain ingredients locally and never uses corn syrup or artificial additives of any kind. Her all natural Das Caramelini caramels are made with finest ingredients available from local farmers and organic producers. The cream, butter and honey that are used in the caramels are all sustainable and procured within a 150 mile radius of the Chicago area. As energy and transportation costs soared, Katie’s local procurement strategy has helped her to save money as well as differentiate Das Caramelinis from other products that use industrial or big food sources. Even in the beginning, Katie saw Das Foods as more than just a small business making its mark in the fiercely competitive world of gourmet food. It is her conviction that you can contribute to the community while building your small business. Das Foods donates 10 percent of all profits to the AIDS Foundation of Chicago and is always on lookout for local non-profit partners even while she develops new products. From nearly 600 entries, Das Caramelini Assortment pack was awarded Silver Finalist honor as an Outstanding New Product in the 2008 National Association for the Specialty Food Trade (NASFT) sofi™ Awards Competition.
